What’s Your Business ABC?
You could say that the UOB-SMU Asian Enterprise Institute (UOB-SME AEI) helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with their business ABC. If you look at our website, you will see that the Institute is “fully dedicated to providing highly subsidised consulting projects which are implemented by SMU students under the guidance of seasoned industry professionals”.
To date, the Institute’s principal initiative – the SME Consulting Programme (SCP) and SME Consulting Programme Plus (SCP+) – has given many SMEs a timely leg-up, providing the direction and confidence to fuel their next phase of growth. In this issue, we show how two SMEs’ “found” their ABCs during their consulting journey with us.
One company, which provides work-based competency training, wanted to add two new areas of training into its existing repertoire of courses. As shared by its Executive Director at the end of the project, the SCP research findings “validated our thinking and direction” and “our expectations were met”. In this business strategies project, the team had affirmed the SME’s ABC by determining the areas where it can assist in building capabilities.
After almost three decades in the retail customised jewellery business, the second featured SME was looking to expand its customer case and widen its market share. The Business Development Manager commended the “practical yet relevant recommendations”, which the company has started implementing. The consulting team had built on the strength of the company’s ABC – alluring, bespoke craftsmanship – in this strategic marketing project.
