Learning Never Stops
In Singapore, education is a multi-million-dollar industry. In 2008, a survey by The Sunday Times revealed that for every 100 students, 97 received some form of tuition. Fast forward six years to today, and it would not be surprising if the figure has surpassed 100% – that is, a student may have tuition to complement his schoolwork, enrichment classes to enhance desirable habits, and perhaps be enrolled in afterschool care.
Business owners have been quick to step up to the challenge, with a deluge of tuition centres, private tutors, match-making agencies to link the supply and demand, and organisations offering tuition agency franchises. These services underline the fact that education is big business, which makes the industry an extremely competitive one.
In this issue, we showcase three players in the education industry. Although they have all achieved success in their own right, these business owners know that learning never stops. As the competition grows more intense, they acknowledge that the strategies that have brought them thus far may not be sufficient to bring them into the future. We are glad that our UOB-SMU Asian Enterprise Institute (AEI) flagship SME Consulting Programme (SCP) has played a part to break an impasse and smoothed their way forward.
Designed with SMEs in mind, SCP provides the resources that SMEs may not have. Our student-consultants have the ability to carry out market research, review and analyse data and processes, and perform brand audit on selected aspects of an SME’s business. They will provide the SME with a detailed report, which includes recommendations that are tailored to the company’s requirements. As the student-consulting team is closely supervised by an experienced industry practitioner or subject matter expert, the SME benefits from the methodical qualitative and quantitative research done by the team, and the added advantage of the expertise and know-how of the industry veteran.
It looks like a win-win situation all around, and we invite you to explore how our SME Consulting Programme can move your business up to the next level.
