Greater than the Sum of its Parts
Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), by virtue of their size, are so engaged in the day-to-day operations that they do not have the time to think about the future. Those that have the time may not possess the foresight; yet others may know where they want to go but lack the know-how to get there.
In this bulletin, we showcase how two SMEs have reached to the UOB-SMU Asian Enterprise Institute for a leg-up to their next stage of development – an employment agency that wants to stand among the top three in one of its business lines, and an accountancy firm looking to transform for sustainability.
Under the Institute’s flagship SME Consulting Programme, a team of student-consultants undertook the project to help the SMEs meet their objectives. Each team was supervised by an industry stalwart as Project Advisor and supported by an Institute manager.
Leveraging scientific and methodological approaches, the teams gathered and analysed salient data, and designed a set of practicable recommendations; these were supported by detailed action plans and an implementation timeline. The final report also included all the data and analyses that were part of the project proceedings, which the SMEs could refer to for their future plans.
