Staying Ahead of the Curve

Brand awareness is a foundational step in any company’s growth trajectory and, these days, is increasingly gained in the digital arena. It is becoming more critical for businesses to embrace digitisation, and make digital marketing efforts sustainable and profitable.

In this edition, the bulletin features two companies that — although at different stages of their business journeys — have the same forward-thinking conviction that digital marketing is crucial for growth. A 64-year-old business, Chia Siang Heng is an importer, wholesaler and distributor of quality dried goods and general provisions. Lifetime Vision Care is a new premium vision care provider that started in 2021. 

Chia Siang Heng sought to generate greater awareness of its brand and products among its key target audience, who are young business owners in the food and beverage industry. As for Lifetime Vision Care, the company wanted to increase awareness among the public about the importance of regular, quality eye care for myopia prevention and general vision health.

Through the UOB-SMU Asian Enterprise Institute’s flagship SME Consulting Programme (SCP), the companies worked closely with teams of student-consultants to develop practical and effective strategies to reach their respective objectives. 

Under the supervision of an industry veteran as Project Advisor and a Project Manager from the Institute, the student-consultants conducted in-depth research and leveraged scientific methodologies to analyse the data obtained, before designing solutions that solved problems. For Chia Siang Heng, which signed up for the SME Consulting Programme Plus (SCP+), the project also involved a bite-sized implementation component in which the SMU team helped drive traffic to the company’s website via physical QR-coded posters. 

Both Chia Siang Heng and Lifetime Vision Care were very satisfied with the results and felt the proposed solutions could be sustainably implemented in the long run once these were handed over to their marketing teams.
