A Tweak in Time Saves… the Business
The year 2016 began with a dismal prognosis of the global landscape, and given Singapore’s open economy, the sentiment here is similarly gloomy. According to the March 2016 quarterly analyst forecast by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the Singapore economy is predicted to grow just 1.9 per cent this year, down from the December forecast of 2.2 per cent.
As Singapore continues in its restructuring efforts, some companies have taken this period of slowdown to re-look their internal practices and processes with the aim to improve productivity. However, resource-scarce SMEs may not have the reserves nor capability to look beyond their day-to-day operations. And even if they did, they might not have the experience to know if, when or what changes are required.
This is where our SME Consulting Programme (SCP) can fill the gap. As the flagship programme of the UOB-SMU Asian Enterprise Institute, the SCP can provide a professional audit of an SME, and advise if the company’s strategies are optimised to achieve its growth objectives.
The project will be undertaken by a team of student-consultants, and supervised by an industry veteran in his role as Project Adviser. The SME client will receive an audit of high quality, and a report comprising recommendations specific to it. To date, hundreds of SMEs have benefited from the SCP’s brand audits, and you can too.
In this issue, we showcase three SMEs – a luxury car brand, a picture framer and a kitchen fittings and fixtures business. They have all taken the definitive step to differentiate themselves from the competition. Some of their existing strategies are working well while others are not aligned with the vision and mission. Some activities are effective while others fall short. Their respective brand audit provided them with objective perspectives based on scientific and methodological approaches – the hallmark of the SCP.
